Apply to join the incubator.

The application takes about twenty minutes. Answer it honestly — we are far more interested in a clear-eyed founder with a modest business than a polished pitch with nothing behind it.

Before you start

What you will need

  • Your company registration details, if you are already registered
  • A short description of your product or service
  • Who your customers are, or who you believe they will be
  • Your current monthly revenue, even if it is zero
  • What you most need help with right now
  • Contact details for you and any co-founders

What happens next

Our process

  1. We acknowledge your application

    You will get confirmation it has been received.

  2. We screen it

    We assess fit against our focus areas and current capacity.

  3. We invite you in

    Shortlisted applicants come to Midrand for a conversation and a look at the space.

  4. We agree a plan

    If it is a fit on both sides, we set your development plan and milestones, and you move in.

If we are not the right home for you we will say so plainly and, where we can, point you somewhere better suited.

Frequently asked

No. Applying is free. If you are accepted you pay only for the workspace you occupy, at the rates published on our facilities page.

Our campus is in Randjespark, Midrand, and on-campus incubatees are based here. We also support virtual businesses across South Africa, so tell us in your application which you are applying for.

Not necessarily. If your venture is still pre-registration, apply anyway and say so — helping founders set up as a proper legal entity is part of what we do.

Softstart BTI is a registered non-profit company. Please raise any questions about commercial terms during your screening conversation so everything is clear in writing before you commit.

It depends on where you start and how fast you move. Your development plan sets the milestones, and you graduate when you can stand on your own. Our flagship programme runs for three years.
